Tiger Woods Signed Actual Match Used 1st Rd 1996 BC Open Scorecard - 4th Pro Start
The 20-year-old "rook" Tiger Woods' actual used and signed official 'Competitor' scorecard from his fourth professional start at the BC Open in upstate New York on September 19th is offered here, less than a month after his famous "Hello World" presser dropping amateur status. Woods told Curtis Strange his plans on winning right away, and despite a grin and "You'll learn" from Strange with disbelief - Tiger did. This was the final tournament he played without a PGA Tour win on his resume, but after his superb T-3 finish it didn't take a mathematician to tell he was trending towards it - and quickly. His GMO debut result was T-60, then came Bell Canadian Open 11th, Quad City Classic - T5.
Printed in typeface is 'TIGER WOODS' across this scorecard's contestant line top left below his 9:09 AM tee time off the backside. Notice Tiger Woods initialed 'TW' below the 17th hole birdie 2, correcting scorer's 3. Playing partner Joe Daley at the BC Open, not John Daly, was again the good luck charm for Tiger Woods. Daley was alongside Tiger Woods during his GMO debut final round hole-in-one only a month prior - detailed in our 2023 March Auction used scorecard that shattered the previous scorecard world record replacing it with $125k. A 3-under 68 with four birdies and a bogey was a nice start and good for a podium finish, with this round followed by a pair of 66's and the final round called off to inclement weather.
Tiger Woods was standing still while his world was spinning going into the 1996 BC Open. "After a manic month of golf during which Woods won the U.S. Amateur, turned professional, signed one of the largest endorsement deals ever, then nearly won in only his third pro start, he is an exhausted young man,' AP News reported going into his fourth professional tournament at the 1996 BC Open. ``The fan attention is the best part,' Woods said. ``The majority are kids. Maybe they can relate to someone who is only a year away from being a teen-ager." This is as close to the action and meteoric rise of Tiger Woods the professional golfer, his fourth start and last in defeat - but it is hard to say that in a T3 effort.
