'Women only' was the message in At Deal Golf Club in central New Jersey 1899, for the recently added second 9 holes at least. Dashing, extravagant, artistic and anything but modest in this stunning gold winner's medal from the '1899 Women's Championship' at Deal Golf Club.
Presented by A.C. Twining on behalf of the Deal Golf Club the year that the golf club grew from 9 holes to 18, with the holes coming in exclusively for women. Donald Ross would execute a course redesign after new property lines were drawn in 1915 after a 1912 property sale to Hollywood Golf Club. Crossed clubs behind an irregular ovular medal rung with laurels is a time-period lady golfer dressed to the 9's. This prize on the 'Women's Championship' bar measures 2 1/8 x 1 3/8" from the first Women's Championship at Deal Golf Club, presented to the winner by prominent lady member A.C. Twining as carefully engraved on the verso.
