1923 Pine Valley GC Member Gifted Sterling Plate to Amateur National Champ Maxwell R. Marston
Prized amateur golfer and pupil of James Maiden, Max Marsten barreled through past USGA Amateur champion thoroughbreds Bobby Jones (1923 US Open Champion), Francis Ouimet, and Jess Sweetser to win the US Amateur during the Golden Age of Amateur Golf in 1923. Investment banker from Philadelphia and prized amateur golfer Max Marston was presented this Pine Valley Golf Club plate by his friends and other members in 1923 after his win on the largest stage in amateur golf, played at Flossmoor Country Club. Flanked by intricate pine needles and cones on the top and bottom of this plate is the careful hand-engraving "Maxwell R. Marston-Pine Valley Golf Club - Amateur National Champion - 1923 - Presented By His Fellow Members." Located in New Jersey, Pine Valley was founded by a group of amateur golfers and designed by one in particular- George Crump. Crump was familiar with the area and had grand ideas while designing his first and only golf course, such as one should use every club in his bag while playing the course, consecutive holes shouldn't play in the same direction, etc. Sadly Crump died in 1918 before finishing his dream of a complex and intriguing course. Pine Valley to this day is perennially one of the top courses in the country. 10" diameter

Place your bids now as this auction will close LOT BY LOT beginning at 10:00pm ET Sunday, November 21st. When placing INITIAL bid in the auction, you must agree to the terms BEFORE confirming your bid. All items with multiple bids in the auction will be eligible for the extended bidding period. Each lot will have its OWN COUNTDOWN CLOCK set for a 30-minute interval, and the clock will extend 30-minutes from the time of the most recently placed bid for that lot. If no bids are placed on that lot during a 30-minute period, the lot will close. Place your bids now!
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots with only ONE or NO BIDS will automatically close at 10pm ET
4. All available lots will begin closing on a LOT BY LOT basis at 10pm ET
**Once extended bidding starts at 10pm ET, each lot will then begin closing with its own 30-minute countdown timer. Lots without a bid during extended bidding will close at 10:30pm ET. We recommend you place your maximum bid(s) prior to that time. Thank you**
