1927 Sannauk Country Club Illinois Club Champion Directors Cup Trophy
The Sannauk Country Club was opened in July 1927. It was formed by residents of Sandwich and Somonauk Illinois. The course was designed by Spencer Meister of the Aurora Country Club per an article in the De Kalb, Illinois Daily Chronicle.
The Club had a short life. In 1940 the golf course was incorporated into the Sannauk Forest Preserve.
This impressive trophy stands nearly 2 feet tall on its 8” diameter base.
The plate on the base is engraved 'Sannauk Country Club, Club Champion, 1927-1928-1929, Chas. L. Howison, Directors Cup.'
A golfer with club at the top of his swing stands on a columnar pedestal which is further adorned by 3 golf clubs at the base.
Overall an excellent display trophy from a small and no doubt forgotten slice of Illinois golf history.
