1930 Bobby Jones 'Honored in New York City' Golf Champion Gets Ticker Tape Parade
Paraded through New York City was the 'Famed citizen of Atlanta,' as Bobby Jones is was described by the media for the 1930 New York Ticker Tape Parade in celebration of the first two legs of his 1930 Grand Slam. Returning home from his overseas major tournament wins of The Open Championship and The British Amateur this iconic city street party was captured by a media camera on July 1st, 1930. Walking out of the convertible car to greet the mayor was the king of golf and sport. Press markings are found on the photograph, planning their newspaper story. This photograph simply transports one to a different time and place, one that was ruled by the great Bobby Jones. Caption On Back: New York ---Photo Shows; Mayor Walker of New York hurrying to greet Bobby Jones on his reception at City Hall. The photo would be essentially perfect but it does have a small stain at the bottom, far from Jones and the center of the action.
