1934 Virginia Van Wie Signed Silver Gelatin Press Photograph U.S. Women's Amateur Golf Championship
This original vintage silver gelatin press photograph depicts three prominent female golfers at the 1934 National Women's Golf Championship held at the Whitemarsh Valley Country Club in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The subjects, identified from left to right, are Lucille Robinson, Virginia Van Wie, and Maureen Orcutt. The players are shown in period-correct golf attire on the course, standing with their putters and golf balls. The photograph features a bold handwritten inscription and signature in blue ink across the center that reads Best Wishes Virginia Van Wie. Virginia Van Wie was a three-time U.S. Women's Amateur champion and an inaugural member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. The reverse of the photograph includes an original typed press caption dated October 1, 1934, providing the names and locations of the golfers. The back also bears multiple red ink stamps for Acme Newspictures, Inc. of New York City and a black ink reference department stamp from the Newspaper Enterprise Association (N.E.A.) dated October 18, 1934. A handwritten reference code B3033 is present in pencil.
