1939 Walter Hagen Cup Trophy on US Base - Ryder Cup Substitute for WWII
Due to World War II Ryder Cup play was suspended from 1939 until 1945. This didn't stop the United States from picking a team to square off against another first caliber team, consisting of legendary players such as Bobby Jones and Gene Sarazen. These "friendly" matches were held with the proceeds benefiting war charities. Five-time consecutive Ryder cup team member Walter Hagen captained the 1939 US team that consisted of Masters winners Sam Snead, Horton Smith, Byron Nelson and Henry Picard among others over the "Gene Sarazen All-Stars." This trophy 'The Walter Hagen Cup' includes the PGA of America logo engraved on the trophy below the name. It is in very good condition and comes on a wooden United States shaped base. 4 1/2" tall, by 5" wide.
