1941 US Open Championship at Colonial Contestant Bag Tag #23

Craig Wood, with this 1941 US Open triumph on the heels of his 1941 Masters win, became the first player to capture the first two legs of the modern grand slam in the same year (since joined by Hogan, Palmer, Nicklaus, Woods and Spieth).  Prior to 1941, Woods had lost in playoffs at the U.S. Open, The Masters and the British Open, and in extra holes of the championship match at the PGA Championship. The 1941 Masters changed that, and this 1941 US Open victory added a further exclamation point to the end of his woes. This 2 ¼ “round badge, red with black lettering, with original leather strap reads: “U. S. G. A. 45 th Open Championship Colonial Club Fort Worth, Texas”. Interestingly note the wording “Colonial Club” vs the club being now known as “The Colonial Country Club”. The wording on the badge is consistent with the wording on the 1941 program and related admission badges and tickets. Do not miss this rare opportunity to add scarcely known badge to your collection.
