1947 Ryder Cup at Portland Golf Club Signed by Both Teams & Captains

With food rationing still in effect in Great Britain, the first post World War II Ryder Cup was pulled together in 1947 as an attempt to return the golfing world back to the way things had been prior to the horrors of war. Heavy rain saturated the course for both the opening day foursome matches and the 10 singles matches the second and final day. An estimated crowd of 5,000 trudged through mud throughout the matches. Despite these unfavorable conditions the condition of the listed 1947 program is in good condition. All inside pages are intact featuring the victorious US team captained by Ben Hogan and led by Sam Snead, Jimmy Demaret, and Byron Nelson in a 11-1 victory by the USA over Great Britain. This program elevates itself from the field, as it contains the signatures of both the United States team and honorary captains, as well as the opposing British team. Remarkably many of the signatures are are a 9/10 or higher in strength, positioned near their black and white picture and name. Craig Wood, Walter Hagen (Honorary Captains) as well as the team Jimmy Demaret, Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, Byron Nelson, Herman Keiser, Lloyd Mangrum, Lew Wersham, Ed Dudley, Herman Barron, Dutch Harrison and Ed Oliver. The British team's signatures are in equal strength and come from Henry Cotton, Sam King, Dai Reesm James Adams, Fred Daly, Eric Green, Arthur Lees, Max Faulkner, Reginald Horne, Charles H. Ward and others. It is in good condition, with very minor blemishes from age throughout. Please refer to pictures. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity comes with this lot.
