In 1949 Lloyd Mangrum defended successfully his 1948 title in the All-American Open held in August just outside Chicago, Illinois. Offered in this lot is the 6 oz medal which Mangrum was awarded for his victory in 1949.

The two piece medal with center clasp measures 5" in length. The top portion of medal which has a width of 1 3/4" is professional stamped "LLOYD MANGRUM WINNER" & "TAM O'SHANTER CHICAGO" reverse of this piece is stamped "STERLING". Lower portion of medal features an elaborate design comprising of raised gold laurels and silver golf ball.

Lettering on this area of medal includes "ALL AMERICAN MEN'S", "1949" and "PROFESSIONAL GOLF TOURNAMENT". Reverse of this medal contains stamping " 10K STERLING". The All-American Open was orchestrated by course owner and golf promoter George May and was regarded as one of the top events on the PGA tour in the 1940's and 50's. This exquisitely crafted medal displays the high quality of presentation which this event was known for. The All-American Open was one of four PGA victories for Lloyd Mangrum in 1949 on his way to 36 PGA wins in his Hall of Fame career.
