1952 US Women's Amateur Waverley Country Club Program
This official souvenir program documents the 52nd Women's Amateur Championship of the United States Golf Association (USGA), held at Waverley Country Club in Portland, Oregon, from August 25–30, 1952. The publication serves as a comprehensive record of the tournament and the era of women's amateur golf. The front cover features a color aerial photograph of the Waverley Country Club clubhouse, grounds, and the adjacent Willamette River. A printed spine bears the title Official Program 1952 Women's Amateur Championship of the U. S. G. A. and the original retail price of 50 Cents.
The interior contains 192 pages of historical content, regional features, and period advertisements. A detailed table of contents on page 3 lists sections including messages from USGA officials, a profile of defending champion Dorothy Kirby titled Meet the Champion... Dorothy Kirby by Lincoln A. Werden, and a full tournament bracket from the 1951 championship at Town and Country Club in St. Paul, Minnesota. A significant historical highlight is the photographic gallery of past winners on page 28, which includes portraits of Babe Didrikson Zaharias (1946), Louise Suggs (1947), Patty Berg (1938), and Betty Jameson (1939-40). The program also features black-and-white photography of Pacific Northwest landmarks, including the City of Portland with Mt. Hood, log rafting on the Umpqua River for the Coos Bay Lumber Company, and the swimming pool at Waverley. Local advertisements from the era, such as the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of Portland and Edwards Furniture Company, are integrated throughout. The back cover features a color photograph of the Portland city skyline at sunset with Mt. Hood in the background.
