1961 US Amateur at Pebble Beach Contestant Badge for Chuck Kocsis - Jack Nicklaus '2nd Major' Win
Official contestant badge from the 1961 U.S. Amateur Golf Championship, issued by the United States Golf Association (USGA) and manufactured by The Robbins Co. of Attleboro, Massachusetts. The badge is constructed from bronze-tone metal with a circular top and a rectangular nameplate base. The upper section features a central medallion displaying the USGA logo. A red enamel outer ring is inscribed AMATEUR GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP in gold-tone lettering, while an inner ring is inscribed UNITED STATES GOLF ASSOCIATION. A raised horizontal bar between the circular top and the base displays the year 1961. The rectangular nameplate at the base retains its original typed paper insert identifying the player as C. Kocsis. This refers to Charles Chuck Kocsis, a highly distinguished amateur golfer, three-time U.S. Amateur finalist, and member of the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame. The reverse of the badge features a horizontal pin with a safety clasp and is stamped with the maker's marks THE ROBBINS CO and ATTLEBORO, MASS. Jack Nicklaus has steadfastly claimed he has 20 Major wins over his career counting his two U.S. wins as Majors, which makes sense if you acknowledge Bobby Jones as similar.
