A long standing practice dating back to the 1940's at the Augusta National the week of the Masters has been to distribute a stylish gift to contestants and dignitaries on hand for the tournament. These are cherished collectibles regardless of who the previous owner was. Offered in this lot is a special opportunity to have the 1964 Master's Bridge Set which was presented to that years honorary starter of the tournament Fred McLeod. The tradition of an honorary starter at the Masters was begun in 1963 when McLeod and Jock Hutchinson received the honor. McLeod would continue this yearly tradition at the Masters through 1976 just prior to his passing in May that year. To date there have been eight former players, all past Major winners to perform the starters role at the Masters. McLeod an early Tour player was the 1908 US Open Champion. His long career also saw him compete in the first Masters in 1934. This Masters gift remains in top condition, retaining original pencil and scoring pad which it was issued with. One drawback to this outstanding collectible is that the two packs of original Masters playing cards are no longer with the set.
