1966 Masters Tournament Contestant Bag Tag Issued to Peter Butler - Nicklaus Win
While Peter Butler was indeed a leading English golfer in the 1960's and 1970's and four-time Ryder Cup participant, the headliner for this lot is certainly the storyline of the 1966 Masters Tournament in which this contestant bag tag was issued to Butler for. The great Jack Nicklaus won his 3rd Masters in 1966 in dramatic fashion in a playoff that included Tommy Jacobs and Gay Brewer. It would be a title defense and the first of its kind. This classic style Masters Tournament Contestant bag tag features the United States Augusta National logo, along with 'Peter Butler' and the dates hanging from the customary leather strap. Only 103 players were in the tournament, with far less of those contestant bag tags surviving from Jack's successful title defense.
