A Collection of Golf Memorabilia and Ephemera Relating to Professional Golfer Rod Munday

This archive documents the career and military service of professional golfer Staff Sergeant Ronald Rod Munday, primarily covering the period from 1944 to 1963. The collection features a black-and-white photograph of Munday in his U.S. Army uniform with visible Staff Sergeant stripes, featuring a typed label at the top reading ROD. MUNDAY CONCENTRATING AT THE 16TH. Another significant photograph shows a group of five men crossing the Swilcan Bridge at St. Andrews; the reverse is handwritten with the names Charlie Whipperman, Eddie Nowak, Horton Smith, Rod Munday, and Matt Kowal, dated September 1945. Military ephemera includes a restricted document from Headquarters 84th Infantry Division dated 4 October 1945, ordering Munday to proceed to Biarritz, France, for the Inter-Theater Golf Championship. Several original newspaper clippings from The Stars and Stripes and the Daily Mail document the ETO golf championships. The Greenbrier resort is represented by pairing sheets for the 1955 and 1959 Pro-Amateur tournaments and a white cardstock guest tag from the 1955 Greenbrier Open with original string. An assortment of over twenty vintage scorecards is included, representing courses such as St. Andrews, Golf de Fontainebleau, St. Cloud Country Club, and Royal Winchester. Professional career items include a January 1963 issue of Professional Golfer magazine and a yellow pin-back badge reading PGA SENIORS CONTESTANT ROD MUNDAY TEACHER TROPHY CHAMPIONSHIP. Personal items consist of a holiday card from Argentina featuring a gaucho illustration and a used mailing envelope addressed to Munday at his A.P.O. station.
