A Collection of Vintage Lloyd Mangrum Press Photographs and Newspaper Clippings
Successful on the course with movie star good looks was that of 1946 U.S. Open champion Lloyd Mangrum. The group consists of four photographs and related ephemera documenting Mangrum's career spanning the early 1940s to the early 1950s.
The collection includes:
One action photograph of Mangrum playing out of a sand trap at the 1946 Memphis Open at Chickasaw Country Club. The reverse is inscribed Lloyd Mangrum, Sept. 46, and archive number 80151. Included is an original newspaper clipping from the Memphis Commercial Appeal dated September 21, 1946, describing the scene.
One photograph depicting Mangrum holding a large silver trophy in front of a leaderboard following his win at the Palm Beach Round Robin tournament in New Rochelle, New York. The reverse is inscribed Lloyd Mangrum, 6-19-50, 32, and 80151. Included is an original newspaper clipping dated June 19, 1950, reporting on the victory.
One group photograph featuring Frank Ketcham standing with Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Mangrum. The reverse is inscribed Frank Ketcham, Mr + Mrs. Lloyd Mangrum, (Open golf winner - Feb. 42), and 80151.
One candid photograph of Mangrum in a striped shirt and beret signing autographs for children. The reverse is inscribed Lloyd Mangrum, 11/2/53, and 80151.
All four photographs bear the pencil-written archive number 80151 on the reverse.
