A Five-Piece Collection of Dwight D. Eisenhower and Augusta National Golf Club Ephemera and Press Photographs
This five-piece collection consists of original press photography and commemorative postal covers documenting President Dwight D. Eisenhower and his association with the Augusta National Golf Club. The first item is an original black and white Associated Press Wirephoto dated November 14, 1959, depicting President Eisenhower and Mamie Eisenhower at the Augusta National Golf Club. The image shows the President wearing a green jacket featuring the club logo. The reverse is marked with Associated Press Photo stamps, date stamps for November 15, 1959, and November 5, 1973. The second item is an original black and white Associated Press Wirephoto dated July 11, 1955, showing President Eisenhower shaking hands with Bobby Jones on the North Portico of the White House, with Gene Tunney in the center. The reverse features a July 13, 1955 date stamp and a pencil filing notation for Robert T. Bobby Jones. The collection also includes three commemorative postal covers. The first is a 1954 cover with a purple cachet of Eisenhower golfing, postmarked Augusta, Georgia, April 17, 1954, with three 1-cent George Washington stamps. The second is a 1952 I Like Ike campaign cover with a 3-cent NATO stamp postmarked Augusta, November 18, 1952. The third is a 1959 cover commemorating the President's 25th visit to Augusta, featuring a green cachet and a 4-cent Abraham Lincoln stamp postmarked December 31, 1959.
