A Pair of Two (2) Gene Sarazen, Babe & Other Notable Golfers Exhibition Tickets
Here we have a pair of Gene Sarazen exhibition tickets. The first is from a 1932 exhibition at the Brooklawn Country Club in Bridgeport Connecticut benefitting the Mayor’s Un-employment Fund. Sarazen was joined in the effort by Leo Diegel, Billy Burke and Henry Ciuci. There is a Spalding advertisement on the back for Bobby Jones’ irons and woods.
The second ticket involved Sarazen and “Babe” Didrikson. The pair teamed up to do a series of exhibition matches in the Chicago area in 1935.
Per an article in the July 8, 1935 Chicago Tribune, In a match at the Oak Park Country Club, a gallery of nearly 4000 watched Joyce Wethered and Horton Smith defeat Sarazen and the “Babe” in a foursome system of scoring (two points a hole low ball and high ball) 12 to 4.
We believe this ticket is from that match.
Sarazen and the other prominent golfers involved in these 1930s’ matches make both of these tickets highly collectible.
