A Trio of 1997 Masters Tournament Memorabilia Items Featuring Tiger Woods
This lot consists of three separate pieces of golf memorabilia primary related to the 1997 Masters Tournament and the first major championship victory of Tiger Woods. The collection includes a Sports Illustrated magazine, a scoring records booklet, and an on-site spectator information sheet.
The Sports Illustrated magazine is the April 21, 1997, issue titled The New Master. The cover features a smiling Tiger Woods in a red shirt and black cap following his 12-shot victory at Augusta National. The interior includes the feature article Strokes of Genius by Rick Reilly and the Golf Plus supplemental section. The back cover features a full-page color advertisement for the Chevrolet Venture.
The second item is an official publication from the Augusta National Golf Club titled The Masters Tournament Scoring Records and Statistics 1934-1980. This is the Eighteenth Edition, compiled by Bill Inglish. It contains comprehensive historical data, including scoring records for various categories, money winnings, and the 25 Club membership list.
The third item is a double-sided spectator information sheet from the 1997 Masters Tournament Practice Rounds, dated April 7-9, 1997. The obverse lists the 1996 champion Nick Faldo, the tournament autograph policy, schedules for the Par 3 Contest, and a list of invitees that includes Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Arnold Palmer. The reverse side features a detailed illustrated course map of the Augusta National Golf Club, a scorecard with maximum distances, and a message from Robert Tyre Jones, Jr.
