A Trio of Bobby Locke Amateur Golf Ephemera Including Annotated Scorecard and Original Photograph circa 1934-1935
Consisting of three pieces of documenting the early amateur career of South African golfer Arthur D'Arcy Bobby Locke.
The first item is a vintage black and white gelatin silver print photograph depicting Locke putting on a green while dressed in traditional plus-fours. The photograph is mounted to a sheet of lined notebook paper with a folded tab on the right edge bearing the handwritten notation Vol 2 - B.
The second item is a hand-annotated printed golf scorecard from the Germiston Course in South Africa. The card is dated February 4, 1935, and identifies the player as A. D. Locke. The entries record a front nine score of 35 and a back nine score of 37 for a gross total of 72. The scorecard is signed by the marker G. Coghlan at the bottom left. The card is pasted onto a sheet of lined notebook paper.
The third item is an original newspaper clipping from the Rand Daily Mail dated December 12, 1934. Titled A Bradman of South African Golf?, the article profiles Locke as a schoolboy prodigy at Benoni High School following his performance in the Transvaal amateur championship. The clipping includes a small portrait photograph and is mounted to a sheet of grid paper.
