A Trio of Golf Memorabilia Including Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer Photographs and a Dual Signed Bobby Jones Commemorative Postal Cover
This lot consists of two large-format color photographs and one signed commemorative postal cover related to professional golf.
The first photograph is a color print on Kodak Royal Paper, as indicated by the repeating gold-toned diagonal grid pattern on the reverse. It depicts Jack Nicklaus standing on the Swilcan Bridge at the Old Course, St. Andrews, wearing a yellow polo shirt and tan trousers, waving with a gloved hand. The background shows the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews clubhouse and a crowd of spectators.
The second photograph is a color print also on Kodak Royal Paper, featuring Arnold Palmer waving his glove from the Swilcan Bridge at the Old Course, St. Andrews. He is dressed in a dark navy sweater over a yellow collared shirt and gray trousers. A caddie carrying a golf bag is visible in the background to the right.
The third item is a First Day of Issue commemorative postal cover honoring Bobby Jones. The front of the envelope features a color illustration of Jones on the left, captioned "Bobby Jones" and "Colorano 'Silk' Cachet". A US 18-cent postage stamp featuring Bobby Jones is affixed to the upper right. The envelope bears a circular black ink postmark reading "PINEHURST, NC SEP 22 1981 28374" and a "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE" cancellation. The cover is hand-signed in black ink by Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer. The signature of Jack Nicklaus is located above the postmark, and the signature of Arnold Palmer is located below the silk cachet on the left. The reverse of the envelope shows the embossed rectangular outline of the cachet frame.
