A Trio of Vintage Golf Books by John Duncan Dunn, Alex J. Morrison (Signed), and Joseph T. Shaw (DJ)
This lot comprises three early 20th-century hardcover books focused on golf instruction and narrative. The first volume is Intimate Golf Talks by John Duncan Dunn (Los Angeles Country Club) with Elon Jessup (Associate Editor of Outing). Published in New York and London by G.P. Putnam’s Sons, The Knickerbocker Press, 1920. This octavo volume is bound in the publisher's blue cloth with gilt-stamped titles and a photographic inlay on the front board. It is stated as a First Edition on the front endpaper and contains 82 black and white illustrations. Notable provenance and internal additions include a bookseller's stamp for Acres of Books, Long Beach, Calif., and two vintage cigarette cards featuring Diana Fishwick and Miss Wanda Morgan pasted to the interior.
The second volume is A New Way to Better Golf by Alex J. Morrison, published by Simon and Schuster, New York, 1932. This octavo is a Fourth Printing bound in yellow cloth with blue illustrations. The title page features a clipped signature of the author, Alex J Morrison, in blue ink pasted over the author line. The front endpaper bears an ownership signature in blue ink for H.F. Kiler. The text is accompanied by photographic plates demonstrating the Morrison swing technique.
