A Trio of Vintage Professional Golfer Press Photographs featuring Gene Sarazen, Jack Nicklaus, and Gary Player
@A collection of three original silver gelatin black-and-white press photographs depicting three of the five golfers to achieve the modern Career Grand Slam: Gene Sarazen, Jack Nicklaus, and Gary Player.
The first photograph features Gene Sarazen seated on the tailgate of a 1950s station wagon with his golf bag and clubs visible in the cargo area. The vehicle bears a Michigan license plate with the Water Wonderland slogan. The reverse includes handwritten notations: Gene Sarazen, 6/21/55, 58855, and Sports. It also features a red grease pencil marking of 100 and a large brown moisture or adhesive stain at the bottom center.
The second photograph captures Jack Nicklaus in a crouched position on a green reading a putt while holding a putter. The reverse is dated 7-31-79 and includes the handwritten name Jack Nicklaus along with numbers 9934 and 100 / 26 / 180. The paper contains a faint repeating Kodak manufacturer watermark.
The third photograph is a vertical action shot of Gary Player at the top of his backswing with a long iron, with a crowd of spectators behind a rope line in the background. The reverse contains blue ink notations: Reduce A+, Gary Player, Top of back swing, Long iron, and 629. It bears a photographer's credit for Bud Thorpe Photo.
