Antique Fairlie Pattern Hand Forged Hickory Shaft Niblick Golf Club
An early 20th-century niblick golf club featuring a hand-forged iron head and a hickory wood shaft. The head is constructed with a Fairlie Pattern offset hosel design, where the hosel is set back from the leading edge of the face (Photo 1). The clubface features a punched dot pattern contained within a vertical rectangular frame. The iron hosel is finished with a decorative serrated or nicked pattern where it meets the wooden shaft. Stamped marks on the back of the head include the word SPECIAL oriented vertically along the toe. A circular impressed mark is present in the center but the text within it is not legible. Below the circular mark, an impressed two-line stamp reads FAIRLIE PATTERN. Near the bottom edge, two lines of impressed capital letters read WARRANTED and HAND FORGED. The club features a hickory wood shaft with a natural grain and a black leather-wrapped grip applied in a spiral wrap.
