Arnold Palmer 6/16/1960 Cherry Hills US Open IRA Original Press Photo

Here is a crystal clear black and white photograph of Arnold Palmer chipping towards the pin (foreground) and the crowd looking on after the hit at Cherry Hills during the 1960 US Open. Press markings on the verso from Ira Guy Sealy, one of Denver Post's official photographers covering the 1960 major championship. There are some signs of media usage with wear along the right edge and lower left corner.

Arnold Palmer won the 1960 U.S. Open Championship, a year known for a farewell to legend Ben Hogan, and a welcoming for Jack Nicklaus. Let's not forget about Palmer and 'The Charge,' which came after Arnie came back from seven strokes down entering Sunday's round before he went on to register a final round of 65 to beat Nicklaus and the rest of the field.11 1/8" x 8 1/8"

The Golf Auction is pleased to bring to market original photos from the archives of the Denver Post Newspaper. Many of these photos are original photos printed by the paper but not distributed through wire services. Photos distributed through wire services may have been printed or used by many news outlets across the world. These photos were mainly just printed for Denver Post use, making these locally sourced and held examples limited in quantity. These pictures normally have the photographer stamping on the back. Here are some of the Denver Posts photographers and the era covered offered in the collection: Ira Guy Sealy 1950's, Bill Peters 1950's, Albert Moldvay 1960's, Bill Johnson 1960's, Dean Congree 1960's, Duane Howell 1960's, Ernie Leyea 1970's, John Prieto 1970's, Alan Warren 1980's, and Karl Gehring 1980's. In this collection will be offered many original photos from the historic 1960 US Open at Cherry Hills country club won by Arnold Palmer.
