Babe Didrikson Signed Original Photo with Bobby Jones at East Lake GC After Match - Framed
Dated a mere six days before the 1936 Masters Tournament, then under the title 'Augusta National Invitation Tournament', this original photo of golf luminaries Babe Didrikson and Bobby Jones was shot after their East Lake GC Atlanta exhibition and was signed and dated by the former. The crystal clear shot features the two with smiles on their faces, a club in The Babe's hands and even Jones' depiction on the wall to the right. "Eyes popped in the gallery at East Lake. Babe Didrikson had busted a golf ball. Even Mr. Bobby Jones' eyes were a bit wide. Those of the gallery had read and heard about the distance this 137-pound girl, who took up golf a short while ago, gets from the tee. But they hadn't really believed it. But yesterday noon they saw it." Bobby Jones told the press after their inclement weather shortened two hole bout at East Lake GC, "Miss Didrikson looks like a very fine golfer." Babe would add "Bobby looks like the same old Bobby to me. I hope he does well at Augusta." The Babe's inscription says 'With warm regards to a real sports editor Sincerely - Babe Didrikson.' Babe married then famous wrestler George Zaharias two years later on December 23, 1938, picking up his last name and further time stamping this photo sans it. The iconic shot was used in the Atlanta Constitution on March 28, 1936, the day Babe signed this for a reporter that covered the abbreviated round. It is framed tastefully to 19" x 22" for maximum presentation value, with the nearly 90-year old oversize photo in good condition, with small imperfections shown in the accompanying lot photos.
