Babe Zaharias Signed 1952 Letter on Personal Stationary
This lot consists of an Autograph Letter Signed (ALS) by legendary multi-sport athlete Babe Didrikson Zaharias, dated September 15, 1952. The manuscript is composed of three separate pages of cream-colored personal stationery, each featuring a printed letterhead in dark brown ink that reads "Babe" D. Zaharias. The letter is handwritten in ink and addressed to "Bertha."
The content is personal and conversational, detailing Zaharias's return home after a long car journey and noting her lack of recent driving experience. She mentions her immediate return to "practice and play," likely referring to her professional golf career. The text includes candid health observations, with Zaharias humorously noting she is "22 pounds overweight" and attributing this in part to the recipient. She also discusses a potential future visit to San Antonio. The correspondence concludes with a closing signature, "Babe," featuring an underlined flourish. This letter was penned while Zaharias was serving as the President of the LPGA, a title she held until her passing in 1955.
