Big 3' Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus & Gary Player Signed 2009 Masters Flag
They were larger than life. The King, The Golden Bear and The Black Knight, weren't in a fairy tale, it was golf Golf in the 1960's. Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Gary Player, were golf's "Big Three," dominating the decade plus and racking up 13 Masters wins. They both popularized and commercialized the sport during the beginning of the television age in golf.
Each nicely inked the center logo of this 2009 Masters flag in bold black sharpie, recognized as Player's record 52nd and final Masters contested as a year of significance. He would be the final of the 'Big Three' to compete as a contestant, Nicklaus bowing out in 2005 and Arnie in 2004. The three have a combined 34 major championships, with Jack's 18 still sitting securely atop the golf world. Player's nine Majors are tied for fourth all-time with Ben Hogan, and The King won seven major championships. The revered trio were longtime starters together until Arnie's passing in 2016 and Jack and Gary remain, kicking off the annual Masters tournament with the ceremonial first shots on the first hole.
