Bobby Jones 1932 Acme Newspictures Type I Original Photograph PSA Authentic
The best visual in sport collecting is unquestionably the Type I photograph, this a stunning example depicting Bobby Jones head to toe encapsulated by PSA. The black and white photograph, taken by Acme Newspictures, depicts Jones on a golf course in Bermuda in September 1932. He is shown in a full-length standing pose wearing traditional golf attire of the period, including knickers and a collared shirt, while holding a golf club identified as a mashie.
The reverse of the photograph features a typed paper caption titled Bobby Jones Keeps in Practice, dated September 10, 1932. The text describes Jones playing at the Mid-Ocean golf course in Bermuda as a guest of Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Dick of Atlanta. Authentication marks on the reverse include a red Acme Newspictures agency stamp and a blue N.E.A. (Newspaper Enterprise Association) reference department stamp dated September 14, 1933. There is a handwritten pencil marking B3008. The item is professionally encapsulated in a tamper-evident holder from PSA, confirming its status as a Type I photograph, which is a first-generation image developed from the original negative within approximately two years of the date it was taken.
