Bobby Jones' Personal Letters w/Publisher Ferris Mack, Ravielli, C. Price, & others - 'Bobby Jones on Golf'
Previously unknown information and correspondence from the mind and typewriter of Bobby Jones in preparation for the release of his title 'Bobby Jones on Golf' book, published in 1966 by Doubleday & Co, is for bidding consideration in this lot. This was not Jones' first collaboration with the publishing company and Ferris Mack. Additional works of this professional writer-publisher partnership included many of Jones' key books including: 'Golf is My Game' - 1960 and 'Bobby Jones on the Basic Swing' - 1969. In fact, Bobby Jones writes to Charles Price in 1964 that he is obligated, perhaps even legally, to continue to use Doubleday with any additional book he produces. The Golf Auction offered curated correspondence with Bobby and Doubleday for 'Golf is My Game' in our February auction for a realized price of $2,482 as a comparison lot.
In this lot you will see a comprehensive curated binder of nearly 100 pages paper correspondence between Bobby Jones and Doubleday & Company's Robert Black, Ferris Mack, artist Anthony Ravielli, Charles Price and others heading up the 'Bobby Jones on Golf' project starting in April 1964, published in 1966 and concluding with reviews through November 1967. Bobby Jones wrote to Charley Price "The book (Bobby Jones on Golf) seems to have gotten some fairly good reviews (except for Alistair Cooke's, which was excellent); but most of them seem to be merely quotations from your foreword of the publisher's blurb. I suppose this is to be expected." Bobby Jones historians and fans are both eager to read Jones' 'Golf is My Game' notes and typed letters to World Golf Hall of Fame writer, along with famous artist Ravielli and of course Mack and the publishing team.
