Champion Hal Sutton's Scotty Cameron Gold Plated Newport Putter for 1998 Westin Texas Open Win

In similar fashion to many of his PGA Tour peers, Hal Sutton added a Scotty Cameron putter to his bag in the mid to late 1990's - and won with it. Hal's trusty Scotty Cameron Newport by Titleist putter got the job done in 1998 at the Westin Texas Open, never carding a round in the 70's and alternating 67-68-67-68. This would be his 9th win, coming by the slimmest of margins over the prior year's Open Champion Justin Leonard and Jay Haas.

With less than a decade of retail of production for his company, Scotty Cameron was already cementing his name among the great putter makers. The practice of awarding a gold-plated putter was again put into play rewarding Sutton's memorable victory, this time by the newest industry giant and it's future - state-of-the-art putter maker Scotty Cameron. Karsten Solheim started giving out gold-plated putters in the 1970's that were built to the exact specs of the winner's model, with Cameron following suit in a passing of the torch of sorts. Scotty Cameron collectors are likely aware of the production of these putters, with very few acquisition opportunities until now. A signed letter of provenance from Hal Sutton will accompany this lot. 34 1/2"
