Craig Wood, Horton Smith, Ralph Guldahl & Field Signed 1933 Pasadena Open Letter to Founder Arthur K. Bourne Featuring Nine Hall of Famers! JSA ALOA
Staged at Brookside Golf Course, the Pasadena Open was circled on the PGA Tour calender during the winter from 1939 until 1935 and then again in 1938. Strong fields were attracted to the tournament, case in point by this letter of appreciation to tournament founder Arthur K. Bourne, on Christmas Eve Eve 1933. It contains three of the toughest past Masters winners signatures, partly due to it being the first two to pass away in Craig Wood (1968) and Horton Smith (1963). Over 30 PGA Tour stars and contributors of the December 23, 1933 Pasadena Open, including the winner Paul Runyan and a total of nine World Golf Hall of Famers, signed this Pasadena Junior Chamber of Commerce letterhead, including some handwritten notes. Names include MacDonald Smith, Jimmy Thompson, Denny Shute, Wild Bill Melhorn, champ Runyan (2), Harry Cooper, Tom Creavy (PGA CHamp winner that's tough), Dick Metz, Wiffy Cox, Al Espinosa, Leo Diegel, James Duncan Dunn, Johnny Revolta and more. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity (ALOA) comes with this lot.
