Jack Nicklaus captained the 1987 Ryder Cup team in his own backyard at Muirfield Village Golf Club. The final was 15 to 13 Team Europe in one of the more memorable Ryder Cups. With Barbara and Jack Nicklaus involved it was understood that this would be a classy, tasteful orchestrated event. This lot carries an item which came out of that Nicklaus class, and is so scarce that most collectors have never heard of it, much less scene one. It is a highly dignified Ryder Cup crystal trophy adorned with a sterling Abe Mitchell figure perched at the top of its removable lid. With the manufacturer's hallmark etched on the base between the feet of the figure. It is this sterling figure which makes this a treasured work which stands head and shoulders above mere crystal displays which have been offered to replicate this Cup. With only a couple handfuls of these deluxe crystal Ryder Cups produced, we know of only one other which has ever been publicly offered.
