Demaret, Nelson & others Signed 1943 Golden Valley Inv. War Benefit Official Program

Contested in Minneapolis, Minnesota at A.W. Tillinghast's Golden Valley Golf Club was the World War II war relief tournament available for purchase for the likely limited Golden Valley Invitational Golf Tournament from September 3-6, 1943. Doling out 25 cents may be nothing now, but the penny pinching (uncertain) times of 1943 it was anything but. The spectator that watched Jimmy Demaret and Craig win the first playing of that four-ball challenge astutely obtained the signature of the former in Demaret, the 1940 Masters winner and soon to be first three-time champion. The Golden Valley Invitational would be played one more time to raise capital the following year and championed by Byron Nelson and Harold 'Jug' McSpaden. In addition to Demaret's highly desired time-period signature in close proximity to his image, inside the program are other major winners, Ryder Cuppers and stars of the day in ink including: Byron Nelson, Chick Harbert, Lloyd Mangrum, Tony Penna, Johnny Revolta, Sam Byrd, Bill Kaiser, Ky Lafoon, Buck White, Willie Goggin, Harold 'Jug' McSpaden, Jim Turnesa, Mike Turnesa, and Harry Cooper. Golden Valley Golf Club is discussed in between the soft covers with a hole-by-hole written breakdown with nine photos and Tillinghast's illustrated layout map plan. The program remains in good condition for its age as depicted in the accompanying lot photos. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity (ALOA) comes with this lot.
