Don Cherry's 1962 Masters Tournament Awarded Sterling Silver Low Amateur Runner-up Medal

The second low amateur competing at the Masters since 1952, if he makes the cut, receives a silver medal. This was the case in 1962 as perennial low amateur Charlie Coe was at even par finishing ninth overall behind champion Arnold Palmer to claim the low amateur trophy. Don Cherry would finish at 11 over, good for 42nd place and the Runner-up low amateur medal. Since Cherry in '62 over the next 57 years of Masters competition 27 years have seen two or fewer amateur competitors make the cut. Making this easily the most difficult of Masters medals to receive with it only being awarded in roughly 50% of Masters played. This medal is identical to the medal which Palmer won as champion except for medal content which is silver instead of gold. The prize measures 1.75" in diameter, 1/8" thick and weighs 1.6 ounces. Stamped on the reverse side of the award is Sterling along with the maker's R hallmark. As the photos clearly show, the detail of the medal is outstanding and the condition is Near Mint.
