May 1992 issue of Golf Digest magazine, Volume 43, Number 5, and a contemporary supplemental magazine clipping. The staple-bound softcover magazine features the cover story The Secrets of Golf, representing the first public reveal of the contents of Harvey Penick’s Little Red Book. The magazine is twice inscribed by the legendary golf instructor Harvey Penick in black marker. The front cover bears a personalized inscription over the masthead reading To Troy Regards Harvey Penick. An interior full-page color photograph of Penick on page 63 is also inscribed To Troy Harvey Penick. An original mailing label addressed to Mr Troy Philley in Austin, Texas, remains adhered to the front cover, providing direct provenance for the personalized inscriptions. The lot also includes a torn leaf from the September 21, 1992, issue of People magazine featuring the article Lore of the Links regarding Penick, with a contemporary advertisement for the television series Mad About You on the reverse.
