Jack Nicklaus 1981 MacGregor Ltd Ed Iron & Woods Set 1-5 #467 on Display - Mint Condition
Jack Nicklaus won the 1980 U.S. Open and the PGA Championship in the same year
using the prototype of the Limited Edition Iron. In 1981 Nicklaus co-designed the “
Limited Edition” with David Graham, then MacGregors chief engineer and tour
player. David Graham also won a major with the 1981 production version of the rare
irons, taking the U.S. Open that year. In 1986 Nicklaus won the Masters Championship
using the Limited Edition Irons and woods. These clubs, when manufactured, went
through a rigorous 83-point inspection process. That was considered extreme quality
control in those days.
Lot #224 presents the 1981 Jack Nicklaus Limited Edition Woods, Irons and Putter. This
iron set is numbered 467/1000. These 1000 sets may very well be one of the most popular
Limited Edition Golf Clubs ever brought to the market by any manufacturer and certainly
the most sought-after Collector's golf clubs MacGregor Golf has ever made. Set make-
up includes a total of 11 irons: 1,2-pw,sw, with a MacGregor Muirfield Putter. The Oil-
hardened 1,3,4,5 woods & dark burgundy stain are magnificent persimmon woods. All
clubs are in Mint Condition. The irons are set #467 / 1000 and the woods are set
#467 / 2000. This collection is a must have if you are a Nicklaus fan. (2 original oak
