Jack Nicklaus & LeRoy Neiman Signed 'April at Augusta' Serigraph - Wow!
Showcased in our temporary auction gallery is this stunning Seriograph of LeRoy Neiman's famous work 'April at Augusta' signed by both the renown artist as well as Jack Nicklaus - the first opportunity we have had to offer this rare trifecta. The difference between a poster and the layered Seriograph print is immediately obvious upon close inspection - a seriograph of 'April at Augusta' reaching $7,399 nearly 10 years ago in our July 2017 Auction without Jack's signature!
Leroy Neiman trained at Chicago's prestigious School of the Art Institute, known for his trademark handlebar mustache and his bright, impressionistic portrayals of the world's top sporting events, he was a regular at major golf events as evidenced in his acclaimed 1992 coffee table book "Big Time Golf." It was only natural that Neiman would appear at the Augusta National for the Masters. The magnificent work of Neiman is captured in this high-quality SERIOGRAPH, not poster, signed by not just artist Leroy Neiman in pencil just below his work but also the depicted Jack Nicklaus in bold black sharpie to the left of that. Neiman captured Nicklaus following through on the tenth tee of the Masters, while Nick Faldo, the eventual champion in 1989, 1990 and 1996, watches. Neiman's study carefully noted Nicklaus' classic swing, and even his interlock grip. Over Jack's shoulder the background is presented with the famed enormous oak tree which stands beside the stately Georgian clubhouse, both instantly recognizable to fans of the Masters. The event, like this serigraph, affords the viewer verdant beauty and golfing excellence. Neiman captures the pageantry as well as the athletic grace of the course in Augusta. A scant trace of adhesive and or paper loss is found on the borner of the print far from the signatures and work and could easily be framed out. This is surely an opportunity not often afforded to collectors, to bid on a magnificent centerpiece like this - truly a staple of the golf art category.
James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed the signature and their auction letter of authenticity will come with this lot.
