Jack White Water Putter, Sand & Water Iron Cleek w/24 Holes
Here is a seldom seen hickory shafted putter, water and sand iron cleek in its original condition. The stampings are found on backside of the head towards both the toe and heel due to the twenty-four holes (six by four) that were professionally and originally drilled and finished in a refined fashion. Jack White, of Scotland and winner of the 1904 British Open, devised this club to deaden the ball at impact to minimize its roll on the green. In addition to serving as a putter, clubs like this were also used to escape water or sand around a golf course. This club, often referred to as the “Holy Terror,” made its successful debut at an exhibition in London. Cleek maker, William Gibson Company, collaborated with White and stamped this club with its “Deep Struck Star” on the back. Stampings remain strong, with the club in good condition sans the original grip and remnants all that remain. Its previous inventory price sticker remains intact.
