Large Canada Cup Team Member Bronze Medal
In 1953, the Canada Cup golf tournament was founded by Canadian industrialist John Jay Hopkins, for “the furtherance of good fellowship and better understanding among the nations of the world through the medium of international golf competition (It changed its named to the World Cup in 1967).
Here we have a team member medal from one of the competitions.
In 1953, the format was 36 holes of stroke play with the combined score of the two-man team determining the winner.
The front of the medal depicts two golfers leaning on their clubs and shaking hands in front of a world map scene backdrop with “Canada Cup” in raised letters across the bottom. “
The top rear states in raised letters “International Golf Trophy Team member” with “Presented by John Jay Hopkins” to the bottom.
This scarce, heavy medal is an impressive 3 inches in diameter and is ¼ “ thick and makes a great centerpiece item for a golf medal collection.
