Cyril Tolley Signed 1922 Bank Check
Cyril Tolley was a successful British amateur contender in the 1920s and 1930s. When Tolley won the British Amateur in 1920 he turned back a strong American threat, beating Bob Gardner in the final, on the 37th hole.. In 1930 Tolley met Bobby Jones in the fourth round of the British Amateur, which was the first leg of Jones's Grand Slam. It was a close match all the way, with Jones finally winning when he laid Tolley a stymie on the 37th hole. He was a member of the British Walker Cup team in 1922,23,24,26 and 30. A check from the Barclays Bank of Oxford measures 6 1/2" x 3 1/4" and presents at the EX/MT level. Bank stampings do not impinge upon Tolley's signature. Black and white 8" x 10" photo of Tolley with Bobby Jones accompanies this check. James Spence Authentication has reviewed this Tolley signature, and their letter of authenticity comes with this lot.
