1938 Sports Program of The Greenbrier - Sam Snead on Cover
For the last years of his life, golf legend Sam Snead held the position of the resort's emeritus pro, that title is held today by Tom Watson. As for The Greenbrier, it has left a footprint on many aspects of history. A total of 26 presidents have stayed at The Greenbrier, there is a massive underground bunker that was meant to serve as an emergency shelter for the United States Congress during the Cold War, the property changed hands between the Confederate Army and the Union Army during the Civil War, and they almost burned the resort to the ground. There are many more historical caveats attributed to The Greenbrier. There is a spring of sulphur water at the center of the resort property, and it issues forth below the green dome of the white-columned springhouse that has been the symbol of The Greenbrier for generations. Presented here is a Sports Program pamphlet for The Greenbrier from 1938 with Sam Snead on it's cover, sans his infamous hat. 4" x 8 3/4"
