1901 Ltd Ed 'The Book of Sport' Edited by William Patten & Published by J.F. Taylor

"This seems to be a transitory period in American golf. New men are coming up, the new links are planned under the most scientific conditions, and new ideas have come in regarding the construction, equipment and management of the club-houses," an excerpt from the first page of 'Golf-The Men' section of this book reads. Pages 1-76 of this 411 page book discuss the state of golf in the United States, along with compiled results from both the ladies' and then men US Amateur from their inception in 1896 and 1895 respectively until 1900 when the tome was written. There are full page black and white portrait photographs on the thick pages of past champions Walter Travis (1900) and Findlay Douglas (1898). The same is the case of the early lady winners Miss Ruth Underhill (1899) and Miss Betrix Hoyt (1896, '97 and '98). Courses played on during those tournaments included Shinnecock in 1896, Newport in 1894 and 1895. This is a Numbered edition out of 1500, this example does not show which number it is. Features many articles including but not limited to articles on women's and men's golf by Miss Underhill, Beatrix Hoyt, H.L. FitzPatrick, H.M. Harriman, and Findlay S. Douglas. The volume also covers tennis, raquet ball, lawn tennis, polo, fox-hunting, equestrian, automobiles, and yachting. 'Edition De Lure' labels this hardcover book on the binding. The book weighs an impressive 10 1/2 lbs and has thick pages, as stated above.
