Paul Lawrie Signed 1999 Open Championship at Carnoustie Flag
Offered here is a 1999 Open Championship at Carnoustie flag signed by tournament winner Paul Lawrie. Lawrie won his lone Major in a playoff over Jean van de Velde and Justin Leonard. It was triumph for Lawrie and heartbreak for van de Velde, as he held a three-stroke lead heading into the final hole, a lead so seemingly insurmountable that his name had already been engraved into the Claret Jug. Following the collapse and Lawrie completing the largest comeback in major championship history, down ten strokes at the start of the final round, the engraver was forced to scratch through van de Velde's name to engrae Paul Lawrie into it. Lawrie signed this flag in black Sharpie.
