1934 Augusta National Invitational Tournament (Masters)Ticket - The Best Known Example That Exists!

This treasured example of the 1934 Augusta National Invitational (Masters) Final Round Sunday Ticket #1929 was sourced by The Golf Auction in 2012 from an original-owner non-collecting family. This family was counted as friends and neighbors of the Bobby Jones' family in the Tuxedo Road area of Atlanta (Theodora Black). The 1934 first year ticket is the most spectacular of all Masters badges and tickets, and one of the most highly prized of all Masters collectibles. Any example of a 1934 ticket is extremely rare, with fewer then ten examples known. It is so seldom seen that an elite golf collector reports to us that the Augusta National did not have an example of a ticket from their maiden tournament until just recently. Now that is scarce and desirable.

This is first 1934 ticket to be auctioned off in 5 years (most likely the last for a long, long time) which The Golf Auction has offered at auction. Our April 2012 auction saw a price of $31,987.25 realized for the relic from the first Masters. We have set the minimum bid at a fair percentage of its previous sale, and the selling price will be determined by the market (as is always the case at The Golf Auction). When one reviews this example its attributes are as follows: original string intact, retention of color, sharp corners and almost no creasing to either side. Following a detailed review of this 1934 against the other known cleanest examples existing, it is deemed that this is the most noteworthy example of Masters ticket collecting's greatest treasure. Conservatively, we grade this example overall in NR-MT. The diamond shaped ticket still to this day retains its original blue colored attaching string which is one of the major assets which it holds over some of its closest rivals.

For accuracy we note a couple condition issues which have developed from patron use at the final round of play on Sunday March 25 at the 1934 Masters. First there is a very slight normal worn area around the circular cutout which houses the string on ticket. Secondly there is a slight surface crease which appears on the reverse of the ticket in the upper right hand corner. These are two that we have noticed. We encourage bidders to examine the several up close photos of both front and reverse sides of ticket to base your own opinions on condition. Very few items transcend the world of Masters collecting and whose great significance can so easily be appreciated by collectors and non-collectors alike. This initial Masters 1934 ticket is one of the proud few, and its great significance and rarity defines it as one of the collecting world's greatest treasures. Dimensions: 2.75 X 2.75 inch square. Don't miss this opportunity to own the best of the best, it may never present itself again.

Please note: This auction will end at 5:00pm EST on Sunday, April 8th, with EXTENDED BIDDING to follow. All items in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15 minute time period. Still the lowest rate among major golf auction houses, there is a buyer's premium of 17.5% for all items. All lots are free to be bid on until extended bidding has ended.
