1935 Augusta National Invitation Tournament Sunday Final Round Ticket #153
Offered here is Sunday ticket #153 to that historical tournament. This ticket comes in impeccable condition with sharp edges to the round ticket and the original string attached. The only condition note being there appears to be a slight water mark near where the string attaches and partially on the Augusta National logo. "What made the Masters the Masters?" "Bob Jones, of course. His presence. Then the double eagle."- in the words of Clifford Roberts. The most famous shot in the history of the Masters was hit with the 1935 tournament near lost for Gene Sarazen who was three shots down at the time on the 15th hole. His shot from the fairway on the par 5 found the cup scoring a 2, 'double eagle' and eliminating a three shot lead with one swing of the club. He would finish in a tie with Craig Wood, and easily defeat him the next day in a playoff. To this day it is still debated how many people actually witnessed the shot - somewhere between a couple handfuls and one thousand - at this still very scarce public gathering in Augusta. A small town of 60,000 at the time that could have cared very little about professional golf in Depression Era America. This apathy in part leads to the extreme scarcity which are 1935 Augusta National Invitational tickets (for accuracy known today as the Masters). This example which still today maintains its original string, and is in strong ex-mt condition. Extremely high shape for paper product which was designed to be worn as identification of admittance on the individual as they trudged around a golf course. This ink and the font sizing match exactly to the previous examples we have handled, though the sample size is small due to the scarcity of this ticket. It is important to note that this ticket displays no paper loss which is common in this era ticket with scrapbook mounting being a custom of the day. The condition on this beauty is as rare as Sarazen's albatross in the '35 event. Don't miss this opportunity to cross this toughie off your want list, it may never present itself again.
