1917 American Red Cross Tournament at Indianapolis CC Winner's Medal - Joseph K. Sharpe
The American Red Cross sponsored a handful of golf tournaments during World War I, generating funds for the war effort. The US Open was cancelled in 1917 and 1918, allowing professional golfers to serve the country or travel around to Red Cross exhibition tournaments if they chose to do so. Teenage prodigy Bobby Jones was one of those golfers that played in Red Cross' golf tournaments. A revered symbol, the enamel of the red cross commands attention to Joseph K. Sharpe's 1917 medal that was awarded to him at the Indianapolis Country Club. This was a winner's medal that was awarded. It is in very good condition and is attached to its original ribbon and pin. 1 3/8" diameter
