1921 Eastern Golf Assn. 14k Gold Medal Won by Miss Florence Vanderbeck - Brookline
This stunning gold medal is surely one of the finest in design and appearance. Given at the Country Club in Brookline in 1921 to Miss Florence Vanderbeck, the award spared no expense and was crafted with 14k gold. This Women's Eastern Golf Association medal bears the Bald Eagle in the center, similar to the shield that the United States Golf Association uses to this day. Encircling the shield are additional ones that give the composition added appeal through detail, as well as content. The medal's reverse includes the maker's mark in addition to gold stamping of "14k."
The Country Club at Brookline was one of the five founding charter clubs for the United States Golf Association, opening their club's doors in 1882. With numerous majors and historic events, the 1913 US Open likely tops them all when it saw a relatively unknown amateur golfer Francis Ouimet win the tournament. Pictured on The Country Club grounds, he is often seen walking alongside his young caddie Eddie Lowrey who was 10 years old at the time. diameter of 1 1/4"
