1921 US Women's Amateur Championship at Hollywood GC Badge #374
Offered in this marquee lot is certainly one of the finest examples of the seldom scene 1921 U.S. Women's Amateur badges. This pin served as a badge of passage to the course for all events of the U.S.G.A.'s contesting of that years Championship. This is a spectacular high-grade example of this early U.S. Amateur badge. The reverse contains the original button backing paper of the manufacturer Whitehead & Hoag. Co. Newark, N.J., and its original clasping pin is still operational today. This badge is significant for scarcity and condition. Dimensions are 1 3/4" in diameter for button .This 1921 badge provides all the requisites of the ideal golf collectible, and would be a worthy inclusion or upgrade in just about any advanced collection. Marion Hollins defeated three time champion Alexa Stirling 5 and 4 at Hollywood G.C. in Deal, New Jersey. Shortly after the win Hollins became a pioneer in the field of golf course development. In 1926 she was introduced to S.F.B. Morse, the developer of the Monterey Peninsula. This would lead to her development of Cypress Point, considered by many to be the greatest golf course in the world.
