1931 PGA Championship at Wannamoisett CC Contestant Badge - Tom Creavy Winner

The white 1931 PGA Championship relic in this offering represents one of the most appealing PGA Championship contestant badges that were issued. In only the 14th PGA Championship Tom Creavy, age 20, pulled off a sizable upset over major champions Gene Sarazen 5 & 3 in the semifinals and Denny Shute 2 & 1 in the finals. The 5 round event produced this white enamel covered metal badge that is in very good condition, with only the customary slight wear on its reverse. The reverse is marked Qualifier 1931. The 1" diameter marks the smallest badge the PGA Championship has ever used. Please note the older style PGA logo that graces the center of this collectible. According to the Ermerson-Gilchrist guide book, there is "none Known" for this event, making it even that much more rare and desirables. A letter of from PGA Historian Bob Denney will accompany this lot.
